Preparing Your Car for Fall
With the back to school season upon us, it is time to consider the changing seasons. The warm, dry summer days will soon turn to cool, darker days. There's a few simple things to check to ensure that your vehicle is going to remain safe and reliable, regardless of how short the days become. If you need any assistance with your car's maintenance needs, be sure to visit your local auto repair repair shop.
Check the lights
The exterior lights of your car are important for your own safety, and that of other people on the road. If a headlight, tail light, brake light, reverse light or any other light goes out, it's important that you replace it right away. In some places it is illegal to drive without proper automotive lighting.
Check the wipers
Before you get stuck in a downpour or a rare snow flurry you'll want to make sure that your car's windshield wipers are good to go. You can test them by using the windshield cleaning feature of your vehicle, which sprays water on the windshield and the wipers remove any dirt and grime. If the dirt isn't removed or is just smeared across your windshield, it may be time for new wipers.
Check the tires
Now is a good time to check the condition of your vehicle's tires. If you stick a penny in the tread and can see the top of Abe Lincoln's head, it's time for new rubber. Other signs that your car could use fresh tires include their inability to remain properly inflated, bloated sides or cracked sidewalls.
Oil & Filters
The next time you get an oil change have the air and fuel filter inspected during the service. Summer is generally more dusty than other months, which can contaminate the filters of your car, resulting in poor performance.
To ensure maximum safety, be sure to put together a safety kit for your vehicle that you can use in case of an accident or breakdown. It should include flares, safety triangles, water and a first aid kit.
