What is Scheduled Auto Maintenance
No matter what you drive, it requires routine maintenance to remain safe and reliable. There's a number of services that all cars and trucks need, which can be found in your vehicle's owner's manual. Be sure to keep up with your vehicle's maintenance needs, which likely include the following. If you have any questions about auto maintenance or need to schedule service, remember that you can visit your local independent auto shop, you don't have to return to the dealer.
The most common form of auto maintenance that your vehicle will need is the oil change. This service is critical to engine health, as the oil change process removes contaminants from inside the engine that can cause harm to moving engine parts. Fresh oil is necessary for proper engine lubrication.
Fluid Flush Services
Aside from oil, your car uses a number of fluids to operates its various systems. Like oil, they need to be drained and refilled to keep them and their systems free of debris. These services include the cooling system flush, differential flush, power steering flush, brake fluid flush and transmission fluid flush, but more on that in a moment.
Your transmission uses a special fluid as well and it needs to be drained and refilled from time to time too, but transmission maintenance is more than that. During this service the transmission pan will be removed and cleaned. If your vehicle uses a transmission filter it will be removed and replaced or cleaned as well. Everything will then be reassembled with a new pan gasket, before refilling with fresh transmission fluid.
Many vehicles require certain maintenance every 30,000 miles, which is referred to 30/60/90K service. This may include new spark plugs, new air filters, a fresh fuel filter, safety checks, computer diagnostics, battery replacement and other services. Contact your local auto shop for more info.
